Tutor Checklist: Managing the Workshop

Note

When marking workshops, we have a new system in place so that students don't give marks to their peers. Just feedback text. This means as tutors, we have to mark in a similar way than the other students. To allow us to set a mark for the activity - https://scribehow.com/shared/2024_Grading_Workshops__jVqyuOWoQEmvqKPVeRUXFg

Submission Phase

Check workshop is in the submission phase.
Post a reminder to students if required (e.g. it's the first workshop for the subject).
Midway or closer to the deadline, check that some students have made a submission. If there are none, you might post a reminder to check if there are any problems.

...

Check the workshop has moved to the Assessment Phase automatically.
At the start of the assessment phase: Review the allocations Moodle has made (three assessments per submission).
Change allocations if required (Click 'Allocate submissions'). You can remove specific allocations, and then redo the random allocation (leave 'Remove current allocations' NOT checked). Alternatively, you can change allocations manually. It is best to make changes only as required once in the Assessment Phase, rather than removing and re-allocating all allocations.
If any submission doesn't have three peer-assessors allocated, check with the MOD Administrator
Assess each and every submission. Open each submission in a new tab (Ctrl/Cmd+Click on each submission title).
For each submission:

  • Click Assess

Once you've assessed all submissions, refresh the workshop page to see all submissions and assessments.

You can view a single assessment by clicking the assessment score.

Grading Evaluation Phase

Check you have assessed each and every submission (There might be late submissions if these are allowed). Tutors can still assess submissions after the end of the assessment phase.
Move the workshop to 'Grading evaluation phase' by clicking on the lightbulb icon.
Check that all students have given feedback to all submissions assigned to them.

Ad your feedback and score (using the override).

Under 'Grading evaluation method', select 'Comparison with the weightiest assessment'. The page will reload.
For 'Comparison of assessments', select '90% of tolerance'.
Click 'Re-calculate grades'. A grade will be shown for each student's submission and assessment (in separate columns).
Check the grades Moodle has assigned carefully. Contact moodle admin if something doesn't look right.
