06.4 Internet and Email

06.4.1  Email and Microsoft 365

Email is the primary source of official communication between the College and students.  All enrolled students are provided with a College email account and access to the internet. Both are available through various locations on campus. Your email account is part of College’s subscription to the Microsoft365 suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and OneDrive for Business, and provides you with 5TB of online storage while you are enrolled.  You are strongly encouraged to download and use Microsoft365.

Students are requested to check their College email account regularly.  Official communication via email is standard. Automatically forwarding email to another account has been disabled for security reasons.

The email address assigned to each student is Preferredname.Lastname@student.moore.edu.au. The email user account name is “StudentID@student.moore.edu.au”.  All email communication from the College will use that address.

College email accounts may be accessed using any web browser. Go to:  https://webmail.moore.edu.au

Sign in using your account name i.e. StudentID@student.moore.edu.au.  You cannot sign in with your email address.

06.4.2  Learning Support System (LSS)

Enrolled students have access to the College Learning Support System (Moodle).

Information available includes (but is not limited to) an online orientation unit, unit syllabi, lecture outlines, assessments, chat forums, chaplaincy groups, study guides and information about plagiarism and academic integrity.  You must use the LSS to upload your assessment items.

06.4.3  Internet Access

Wireless Internet access is available in most areas of campus. There are also a small number of public computers available in the Library.

06.4.4  IT Help Desk

Unfortunately, the IT department is not able to help students with individual computer problems. However, we are able to help you if the problem is with one of our systems. Please visit https://it.moore.edu.au for instructions and help.  If you still have problems, please contact the HelpDesk at: helpdesk@moore.edu.au

06.4.5  College Web Sites

 06.4.6  College Web Sites

Cybersecurity is crucial for all people accessing online environments. Online threats can compromise your personal information and that of others. To stay safe and secure online, students are advised to follow these guidelines.

  • Create strong passwords for all your online accounts, including those for your college Master Password and do not share any of your passwords.

  • Wherever possible, enable 2FA (Two-factor Authentication) for your accounts.

  • Stay vigilant against phishing emails or messages asking for your personal information. Never click on suspicious links or provide sensitive data without verifying the sender’s legitimacy.

  • Regularly update your computer, phone, and other devices with the latest software patches and security updates.

  • If using public Wi-Fi, avoid accessing sensitive information, such as online banking or college accounts. Limit the personal information you share on social media platforms.

  • Create backups of your important files and coursework regularly.

  • Only download files and software from trusted sources.

  • Avoid using copyrighted material without proper permission or attribution, both in your academic work and on social media

  • Always log out of College accounts and lock your devices when not in use.
