Use SAS on Your Own Computer or iPad

You should have access to SAS via Remote Desktop to your work computer. Sometimes, however, you may find it more convenient to use FileMaker Pro directly on your Mac or Windows computer, or on your Apple iPad.

Note: Apple iPad means only Apple tablets. The only option for Android tablets is the web interface in a web browser.

Instructions

Installation

First you will need to obtain and install FileMaker Pro (Windows and Macintosh) or FileMaker Go (iPad).

  1. Open this link in a new web browser tab: https://sas.moore.edu.au/fmi/webd/MTC_SAS

  2. Log in using your initials and Universal Password, and wait for SAS to load. It will look pretty similar to what you normally see in FileMaker Pro. In the top-right, click on the Admin navigation button.

  3. On the bottom-right of the Admin screen is a section labelled “SAS at Home”. Click the “Go” button.
Note: if you cannot see this section, your device will not run FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Go.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen, which are specific to the type of computer/device you are using.

Windows and Macintosh

The first step is “Download the License Certificate”. You will need to right-click on it and choose “Export Field Contents…”. Leave the file name as it is and click “OK”, then click the “LicenseCert.fmcert” button to download the file, then click “Close”.

Points to Note

  1. If you wish, you can continue to use the web browser interface or use FileMaker Go to look at data in SAS. For significant data-entry, or reporting, however, it would be better to use FileMaker Pro either in Remote Desktop or on your own Windows/Mac computer.

  2. The first time you connect to SAS in FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Go by clicking/tapping on the
“fmp://…” link in the SAS web interface, your web browser will probably ask you if it’s OK to open the link in FileMaker Pro (Windows/Mac) or FileMaker Go (iPad). Obviously, that’s OK!
